PS 110 Street Tree Signs

The 5th Grade class of Greenpoint Eco-School PS 110 worked very hard on a street tree project during the spring!  The students learned about the environmental benefits of trees, identified tree species in McGolrick Park, designed educational signs, and then installed the signs in tree beds around the school. Check out the students' amazing work and learn a few things about the environmental services of the trees in our community!

McCarren Park Tree Care

During an after work event, Greenpoint community members cared for trees in McCarren Park at the corner of Manhattan & Driggs Avenues! Volunteers learned how to dig out grass and weeds from around trees on the lawn and create mulch rings around them. Thanks to everyone who came out - 20 trees were stewarded!

McGolrick Park Tree Planting

If you've walked through McGolrick Park lately you may have noticed an addition to our community - a new tree! On Saturday May 14, we worked at the PS 110 PTA Giving Back to the Future Community Service Day in McGolrick Park. Along with planting a new Black Oak tree in the park, community volunteers picked up litter, mulched trees, and worked in the urban oasis bird sanctuary. Thanks to everyone who cared for the park!

Arbor Day Tree Stewardship Workshop

How did you celebrate Arbor Day?? We hosted a tree stewardship workshop with our friends at Trees New York! Students from the Stuyvesant Environmental Club came to Greenpoint and learned how to care for street trees. The club members stewarded tree beds on Leonard St. by clearing them of litter and weeds and spreading mulch. Thanks to the members of the Stuyvesant Environmental Club for their hard work!
